Sorry, but the nan was tasteless and the somosas were flat as a pancake nearly and devoid of taste

Best Indian food on the UWS. Very authentic and full of flavor. Quality ingredients, only wish they had a takeout special as most of the other Indian places do.

Very tasty- chicken was tender, not dry :)

Quick delivery. The food was very hot, and was well prepared.

Terrible food! Worst vegetable samosas I've ever had. Tasteless saag aloo. Even the rice was awful. What a waste of money. Oh, and I don't give one star lightly, I usually feel too bad about it. I even feel bad doing it now but it's accurate.

I really like the food from Indian Tanpura. My favorite dishes include, Keema Nan, Aloo Paratha, Chicken Tikka Biryani, Chicken Makhni, Shaag, Vegetable Somosa. The Biryani's come with a generous amount of protein and they containers are always completely filled. The breads are whole and large. Because they aren't cut I feel they arrive warmer and fresher. My only gripe is when ordering multiple appetizers I have gotten only one set of sauces, which is often not enough. Ask for more if you think you will need them. Delivery has always been quick and usually accurate.

Best Indian I've found on the UWS by far. Seriously. Eat here.

I love their food! The vindaloo is crazy hot, the curry is so flavorful, and the chana saag is perfect. Plus they are reasonably priced and relatively fast.

Great chicken tikka masala, miss the palak paneer on the menu though.

terrible food.

The food here is consistently great but more than that, they went above and beyond for me. I sent the order to my work address by mistake and they were super nice about the whole thing. They went back to my office, picked it up, and brought it to me, no charge. And they were totally "it's no problem" about it. Love this place.

Great food!

Let me start off by saying I have ordered Indian food from a lot of different restaurants, but this was my first time ordering from here. I ordered the lamb biryani, but when it came over it was nothing like I expected. Normally dishes come with a 'side' of rice - this one was first and foremost a rice dish, with some chunks of lamb (which was quite fatty) and very little sauce mixed in. Luckily I also ordered raita which kept it from being too dry - but I was overall disappointed with the meal and will not be ordering from here again. The poori was the only highlight!

If you're looking for something that tastes slightly more homemade and more simple than the regular Indian food you'd expect to be served at a restaurant, then Indian Tanpura is the way to go. It's less 'preservative' like, more home-style and less spicy than most places. The down side is that it's slightly oily but it isn't overdone either. Thumbs up for the aloo paratha. The portions are generous and delivery was pretty quick and efficient.

OK, so kinda bland. It came hot and was generously portioned (with rice for each entree, which is nice), but not much spice at all.

Excellent food! Reasonable delivery time and portions. The vindaloo has just enough spice.

Good fast delivery! Chicken korma and samosas were delish!

This restaurant opens at 11:30 according to what is written here but it's 12 noon and I get a message that it is not open and available for ordering. There is a mistake on Seamless that needs correcting.

I love Indian Tanpura. The food might not be ultimately the most subtle Indian food around, but it is VERY tasty, delivery is fast and reliable, and the food comes hot...as in too hot to touch sometimes. And the people at the restaurant are very nice and helpful. I've only ever had one problem and they resolved in quickly. One of the best delivery experiences in the neighborhood.

Samosa's weren't of the greatest consistency but tasted very good. The Vindaloo was too thick of a sauce and too spicy. And I'm a spicy person.

this is my absolute favorite restaurant to get delivery from. this is where i go when i need a pick-me-up, when i want to celebrate, or when i just finished a big project and want a reward. the delivery is always fast and always hot, i have been ordering from here nearly every week for the past year and never once had a problem, and the food is delicious. i also have a very weak spice tolerance, and they are extremely accommodating when i add a note to make my food mild. on the other side, when i order for friends who want their food extremely spicy, that is what they get. at indian tanpura, they actually pay attention to your order, and they give you what they want!

Food came really, really fast! Very nice people and delicious curry.

Always fresh, delivered hot and they are exceptionally nice. We try to eat in at the restaurant too since they are so kind and the service is great.

Rude delivery man, portions small considering price and low quality. No cutlery.

Horrible food, go elsewhere

Only OK. cheapest in the neighborhood but the bread was not super fresh and the chicken tikka masala needed a bit more kick. fine for cheap indian.

low quality food, there are better places to order in the UWS

I expected the garlic nan to be flaky but it was dense and they put some kind of spice on it that makes it taste different, in a bad way. Otherwise, our meal was tasty! We ordered the Spinach Paneer - good and the Beef Vindaloo - flavorful and definitely spicy! Oh and delivery was within 20min!

The order arrived rather quickly, but the mixed vegetable curry was very mediocre, as were the dipping sauces for my vegetable samosas. All in all, Tanpura is a decent value, but not the best Indian food in the zip code.

This is the best Indian Take Away on the Upper West Side. I like the Chicken Kashmiri, Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Korma. Good Saag Ponir too. The Mulligawtny soup, pakoras and somosas are good as well. They always pay attention to my special requests and I always get what ordered (which seems to be a rarity, for me at any rate).

Decent chicken tikka masala and vegetable samosas.

For the low prices, this is great Indian food. Especially the Chicken Tikka Masala!

This place was ok. The na'an was a little heavy, but otherwise some of the better indian food I've had on the UwS.

the food itself was excellent, however the packages were a bit drippy and jumbled, they could do a neater job of sealing the packages.

I love spice, but not when it's used to cover up the lack of flavor in dishes.

good food. Good mint chutney

We ordered chicken tikka masala, vegetable somosas and the side of spinach with chickpeas and had one of the best meals in recent memory. Delivery was very fast ,and the food was delicious :)

I have to use word I never thought to use for Indian cuisine: Bland. I don't mean not spicy-hot, but rather lacking taste.

Best Indian food on seamless web, though last time, delivery took over an hour.

I'm not sure what the real Deal Indian food is like (I'm not Indian); However, the items I've ordered are very tasty. Mild too, so it might be great for American tastes. The Garlic Nan is awesome. Very high in Garlic (note: Skip if on a date) I like the Shrimp dishes too, none bad

Fantastic chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The later was a bit pricy for its size, but was definitely tasty.

Well, it was good until I found the multiple hairs in my food...

The Crabmeat Curry consisted largely of massive chunks of vegetables. If there was, in fact, crabmeat in this dish, the pieces were not large enough to be visible to the naked eye, which is never a crowd-pleaser, and it was overpowered by tomato and bland, in addition to the fact that the primary ingredient was not in evidence. The delivery was awful: (1) this is one of those places that doesn't include napkins and silverware unless you specify, but doesn't say so and (2) they left out half of the order and had to bring it in a second pass.

Messed up on two out of three parts of the order.... Food okay though.
Posted 10 years ago by Matthew F.
The samosas were tough and oily. The Saag Paneer was bland, sugary and too creamy without enough spinach. Unpleasent bits of whole cardamom and cinnamon bark were mixed in which weren't nice on the teeth. The chutneys were watery with the exception of the red onion chutney. I liked the nan, mango lassi and the mango pickle. Not worth keeping the leftovers.
Posted 10 years ago by Sharon M.
The food was quite bland. The chicken was drowned in sauce of some spice and the lassi came in a soup container. Not much taste in the cooking.

The food was very good, however the delivery was horrible. We ordered on a night when it was snowing, which understandably would slow the delivery, but we waited 2 HOURS! When we called a few times during those two hours the person on the phone did not manage our expectations, but rather told us it would be there shortlly. That is completely unacceptable.

The food was horrible! worst indian food i've ever had -- and i love indian food. never again. ordered the chicken saag -- received mushed up pieces of chicken and the saag was undecipherable. the aloo gobi was bland and i don't know where to even begin with the last dish. blech. threw it all away.
